Are you Taking Time to Celebrate Your Success?

We are going to learn about today, are you taking time to celebrate your success? This blog post is something I am still learning to do which is stopping to celebrate the wins I have in my life and business. I’m the sort of person that is very driven by goals by getting one goal ticked off the list and then working on another. It’s exciting to see the progress when you know you are getting somewhere but are you stopping to look at what you have achieved?

Let’s look at the normal life, where I live birthday’s are important we celebrate each year we get another year older. Christmas day is celebrated with my family with a big lunch get together. We give gifts, eat really nice food, enjoy the time together and of course we celebrate. Yes these are special events I know but now I want to look deeper at your own personal milestones.

When I work/speak with other business owners and career people often they are focused on getting a new business offering out there, finishing a work project, signing up a new big client or hosting an event. These are just a few examples and I challenge you to find ones that resonate with you. Once they finish or achieve this goal they are already focusing on the next step or next goal. Have they taken time to congratulate themselves, have they celebrated or have they looked at what they have learnt from the experience? Some probably have but I guarantee there a lot that are already in the future working on the next thing. Instead we are going to stop and look at ways to explore how we can celebrate our achievements when they happen.

How can you stay present in the moment right now?

Being present in every moment isn’t easy because our mind can often be elsewhere to where our body is. It’s grounding ourselves, bringing our mind back to the present moment and having awareness with now. I know you are saying well it’s not always easy which is true but once you focus on being present you will be able to have the awareness to celebrate your successes.

Let’s do a quick short exercise close your eyes and take 5 deep breaths in through your nose and out through your mouth. Now you have opened your eyes what do you feel in your body and mind? Take a short moment to observe how you feel which I bet it’s calmer because you have connected with yourself. This is a good exercise to check in with yourself anytime you need.

Now you have awareness, hold onto this for next time you achieve something give yourself that moment to realise what you achieved. It’s giving yourself the acknowledgment you deserve, it’s now time to look your personal growth.

What have you learnt from this experience?

Personal growth is one of the most important things in life as we know we have grown, learnt something new and moved forward as a result of what we have done. The person that started let’s call it a “project” is not the same person anymore because of the new skills and knowledge you have learnt along the way.

I’m going to use an example from my own business. I used to be afraid of public speaking so I created my own personal development meet up group as the host. As the host it’s my job to present to them, hold mini workshops and share knowledge about personal development topics. I absolutely love it now but in the beginning I was incredibly scared to stand up in front of a group of people. The personal growth I received from putting myself out there, standing up, speaking up and sharing my personal development wisdom with them. It’s amazing to reflect on what I learnt about the experience and how I am now a more confident presenter.

Right now it’s reflection time, I want you to pick something in your life from fairly recently that you achieved. Grab a pen/paper or type into your computer by answering the below questions.

  1. What did you learn?
  2. What can you now do that you couldn’t before?
  3. What did you do to celebrate?

Which now leads me into the next topic.

What can you do to celebrate?

When we have ticked something off the list or made a new achievement in life, career or business what can we do to celebrate? There are many ways to celebrate and we are going to discover a couple that are easy.

In business I share my success with other business owners and life coaches because they understand what it’s like to be in business. I’m in a membership facebook group with 2500 other women entrepreneurs and a good way to celebrate is to share about your experience. Tell them what worked, what didn’t and what you achieved. When they announce what they have achieved you get to celebrate with them too. It’s fun, you take time to acknowledge what you have achieved and you are also sharing to help others at the same time. In your case it could be as easy as telling your partner, work colleague or best friend what you did.

For the big wins take time to do something nice for yourself by looking at what you love to do. I love self-care so I take myself outside for a walk, go to a yoga class or have some pampering time just for me. Or I have a celebration drink/meal with my husband. These are what works for me in my own life, now let’s look at what you love to do. I want you to have a think about what you would like to do to celebrate next time your achieve something. Now you have this goal, schedule this in as part of your goal at the very end. That way it’s already built in which means that you will be more likely to include when you achieve something next time.

It’s being an amazing journey to share with you today on are you taking time to celebrate your success? Please share with me below what are you celebrating today?
